Job Description

Residential Clinical Manager (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC)

Location: Berkeley, CA

Pay Range: $115,000 - $130,000

About Us:

We are a nonprofit mental health agency providing social rehabilitation and Medi-Cal services to adults with co-occurring serious mental health and substance use disorders. With multiple sites and an operating budget of $14.5 million, our 16-bed residential program is located in a recently renovated Victorian home, offering a warm and therapeutic environment focused on patient care, recovery, and wellness.

Position Summary:

As the Residential Clinical Manager, you will serve as the senior clinician for our 16-bed residential treatment program, providing leadership, mentorship, and clinical supervision to a dedicated team of staff. This is a unique opportunity to work within a collaborative, judgment-free, and mission-driven environment, where the focus is on patient care and harm reduction through trauma-informed, strength-based approaches.

You will oversee clinical operations, ensure the quality of therapeutic services, and contribute to the ongoing growth and development of the program. The position is ideal for a seasoned therapist with a passion for leadership, patient advocacy, and progressive clinical practices.

Why This Role is Attractive:
  • Leadership Role: You will have the opportunity to lead a small, committed team and serve as a mentor and supervisor to junior staff, helping to guide them through professional growth and clinical development.
  • Collaborative and Flat Organization: We foster a flat organizational structure, giving you direct access to leadership. You’ll have a voice in shaping program strategy and policy within a supportive, accessible framework.
  • Work-Life Balance: Predefined hours and flexibility to balance outside work ensure that the organization prioritizes staff well-being, fostering an environment where employees can thrive personally and professionally.
  • Engaging Patient Care: With a maximum of 16 patients, each staying an average of six months, the home-like setting allows staff to build meaningful relationships with residents through activities such as gardening and meal preparation, making this a more personal and fulfilling therapeutic experience.
  • Patient-Centered Harm Reduction: Our program operates on industry best practices in harm reduction, providing a non-judgmental, goal-oriented approach where patients are met with compassion, understanding, and support in overcoming challenges.
  • Beautiful Facility: The program is housed in a recently renovated Victorian home in a quiet, safe neighborhood. The discrete, home-like environment enhances the sense of safety and community for both staff and residents.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary clinical team, coordinating therapeutic interventions and groups in alignment with harm reduction, trauma-informed, and strength-based modalities.
  • Provide mentorship, clinical supervision, and support to junior staff, promoting growth and high standards of care.
  • Oversee clinical documentation, ensuring compliance with Medi-Cal, contract, and licensing requirements.
  • Develop and facilitate a range of direct service groups and activities tailored to patient needs in a residential setting.
  • Manage referrals and intakes, ensuring a high occupancy rate and that all new residents meet the program’s clinical criteria.
  • Provide crisis management support as needed and share on-call responsibilities with other management staff.
  • Oversee medication management and ensure proper practices are in place for patient safety and wellness.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders and external providers to ensure comprehensive, multidisciplinary care.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Clinician: LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, PsyD, or PhD with an advanced degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of clinical and supervisory experience in mental health and substance use recovery programs.
  • Commitment to Harm Reduction: Strong belief in patient-centered care, harm reduction practices, and a judgment-free therapeutic approach.
  • Crisis Management: Experience in de-escalation and crisis intervention in residential or clinical settings.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: A demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a clinical team while maintaining a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and ensure high standards of documentation and reporting.

Additional Information:

  • Facility History & Growth Potential: This program has been the heart of our services since the 1950s. It temporarily closed in 2023, but reopened in 2024 with new funding and a renewed commitment to delivering top-tier care. The program is poised for growth, providing exciting opportunities for the team and the community it serves.
  • Small Team & Resident-Focused: With a maximum of 16 residents, you’ll work within a small team setting where deep relationships can be formed, and patient care is personal and progressive.

Is This Role a Good Fit for You?

If you are a licensed clinician passionate about harm reduction and residential treatment, this position offers an incredible opportunity to step into a leadership role in a supportive, patient-centered environment. You’ll have the chance to work in a beautiful, small-team setting where your contributions will make a meaningful impact on the lives of residents and the program’s future development.
