Summary of Position 

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for overseeing the clinical operations of the health center, ensuring high-quality patient care, operational efficiency, and strategic growth. The CMO will lead all clinical providers, manage clinical workflows, and collaborate with leadership to drive organizational objectives, clinical quality, and patient outcomes. This role requires a strong commitment to serving underserved communities, with a focus on health promotion, illness prevention, and trauma-informed care. 




Essential Job Duties: 

• Oversee and manage daily clinical operations, ensuring alignment with budgetary guidelines and organizational goals. 

• Lead recruitment, hiring, training, and performance management of healthcare providers including MD/ DO, Behavioral Health Clinicians, RNs, and LPNs, while collaborating with FM, IM, and Pediatric Medical Directors. 

• Develop, implement, and oversee clinical workflows, incident reporting, and task force identification to improve patient care and operational efficiency. 

• Collaborate with leadership to develop strategic plans for clinical quality improvement and operational growth. 

• Manage public health initiatives and key programs, such as "Vaccines for Children," and build partnerships with external organizations like universities or health systems. 

• Demonstrate an understanding of advanced principles of health promotion, illness prevention, and healthy lifestyle motivation. 

• Present clinical and operational information effectively in small groups and board meetings. 




Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Minimum of five (5) years in clinical leadership roles such as CMO, Medical Director, or senior leadership positions. Experience managing clinical workflows, provider performance, and clinical operations. 

• Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine; completion of an accredited residency program. 

• Current unrestricted license from the Kansas Board of Healing Arts to practice as a physician in Kansas; must have current DEA, DPS, and other relevant certifications. 

• Must be board-certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine; strong consideration given to a qualified Pediatrician. 

• Strong familiarity with Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), community health centers, or non-profit healthcare organizations. 




Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Bilingual in English and Spanish. 

• Experience in administration, management, Continuous Process Improvement (CPI), and budget development. 

• Strong business acumen with a focus on collaboration, strategy, and forward-thinking growth. 

• Ability to engage effectively with a Board of Directors and communicate complex clinical information in an accessible manner. 

• Collaborative, strategic, forward-thinking, and mission-driven leadership style. Ability to drive clinical and operational growth. 

• Experience with electronic medical records systems, such as eClinicalWorks, or similar systems. 

• Demonstrated ability to build rapport with patients, families, community members, and healthcare personnel. 

• Superior organizational skills with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and meeting deadlines. 

• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity. 

• Knowledge and experience with local community resources 

• Understanding of the 340B program's operational significance. 

• Strong ability to simplify complex clinical issues and communicate them effectively to diverse audiences. 




Additional Considerations: 

• Proven ability to build strong provider relationships and engage in performance management. 

• Experience with clinical operations, including scheduling, front desk management, and care team coordination. 

• Comfortable with after-hours crisis management, particularly in public health scenarios. 

• Understanding of trauma-informed care and commitment to incorporating trauma-sensitive practices into patient interactions and clinical operations.
