Join our Integrated Healthcare Center and become a team member of the providers of Oral Healthcare, Primary Healthcare, Behavioral Healthcare, and many supporting departments as we provide access and care to the Tri-County area surrounding Lynchburg, VA.

Job Description – Dental Hygienist





Qualifications:





·       Completion of an accredited Dental Hygienist program





·       Possess a license to practice Dental Hygiene in the Commonwealth of Virginia or have the ability to be licensed upon hire





·       Previous experience in a dental setting is preferred





·       Ability to relate effectively with patients and staff





·       Possess or obtain a Basic Life Support certificate





·       Be able to work independently as a team member





General Description of Duties and Responsibilities:





The Dental Hygienist performs preventive dental procedures, including dental prophylaxis, scaling, radiographs, and sealants, as the dentist prescribes.





Specific Duties and Responsibilities:





Patient/Customer Relations:

Educates patients on dental disease and preventative home care, including brushing and flossing techniques.





Staff Relations/Team Building:

Consults with dentist and other members of the health care team as necessary. Acts to facilitate communication between the members of the health care team, including clinical and non-clinical staff.





Performs other necessary duties as required by the Health Center and as directed by the Dentist to meet the goal of providing oral health care services.





Clinical Duties:

Performs preventive dental care for patients as prescribed by the Dentist. This includes dental scaling, prophylaxis, fluoride treatment, taking appropriate diagnostic x-rays, and applying dental sealants.





Performs preliminary examination of patient’s dentition and gingiva, including charting existing restorations, any dental pathology, and measuring and recording periodontal pocket depths.





Performs suture removal.





Cleans instruments, performs tray set up and updates patient’s medical information in the EMR.





Physical attendance is an essential element of the job and necessary to perform the essential functions of the Dental Hygienist position.

Originally from Flint, Michigan, Kevin served in the US Army as a Military Police officer. After being discharged as a disabled veteran, Kevin returned to Michigan and obtained a degree in Criminal Justice. He then worked in the healthcare field for 13 years in fields including; EMS, ED and Private Practice. He also taught both clinical and administrative courses at two colleges in the Portland Metropolitan Area.
