The Opportunity – Adult Psychiatrist (High Acuity)
San Ysidro Health seeks a psychiatrist to serve adults (18+) with:
- Serious Mental Illness (SMI)
- Substance Use Disorders (SUD)
- Co-occurring conditions
Your role includes:
- Crisis intervention and diagnostic evaluations
- Medication management and medication-assisted treatment (MAT)
- Working alongside addiction specialists, primary care providers, case managers, and behavioral health clinicians
A Day in the Life
In this role, you will care for adults with high-acuity and complex psychiatric needs in a multidisciplinary, team-based model that includes addiction specialists, PCPs, case managers, and behavioral health staff. Psychiatrists are supported with longer appointment times for evaluations and follow-ups, not limited to “15-minute med checks.” On-call responsibilities are shared across the team and structured to protect physician work-life balance. Care is delivered through Epic EHR with integrated behavioral health workflows.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual Salary: Starting at approximately $301,000 for Board-Certified psychiatrists, with a structured, tiered model based on experience and tenure ($144.71/hr to $203.85/hr). This ensures competitive compensation for both early-career and experienced psychiatrists.
- Performance Bonus: 10% annually, beginning after year one
- Loan Forgiveness: PSLF eligible, with strong internal support for application
- CME: $3,200 + 5 CME days
- Insurance: FTCA malpractice (with tail coverage)
- Retirement: 403(b) with employer contribution
- PTO: 15–25 vacation days + 5 sick + 9.5 holidays
Our Ideal Candidate
- Board-Certified / Board-Eligible in Adult Psychiatry
- Experience with SMI, SUD, and MAT strongly preferred
- Resilient, collaborative, and committed to cultural humility and serving underserved communities with a strong community psychiatry orientation
- Spanish or Arabic language skills highly valued
