Job Description


​The ID/HIV Physician is responsible for quality medical services to the patient population of Sacramento. They specialize in the prevention and treatment of communicable diseases. Ensures proper disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.







Core Duties


  • Responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients living with HIV and management of common and complex diseases.

  • Maintain a clinic panel inclusive of HIV, Hep C and Gender Affirming Care patients to ongoing infectious disease oversight and primary care.

  • Prescribe or administer medication, therapy, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.

  • Diagnose and treat acute illness, as well as chronic diseases and conditions, such as hypertension, heart disease and diabetes.

  • Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.

  • Monitor patients' conditions and progress, re-evaluating treatments as necessary.

  • Exercise judgment in establishing priorities of medical care and consult with and refer to appropriate specialist regarding high risk or complex patients.

  • Responsible for ensuring quality medical care delivered to all patients.

  • Responsible for understanding and maintenance of Quality Improvement Program indicators as directed by the Leadership for the medical department.

  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the Standards of Care and policies for the Medical Clinic.

  • Responsible for understanding and complying with the implementation of medical clinic policies to ensure appropriate medical follow-up of patients and medical specialty referrals.

  • Understands and follows medical operations in compliance with applicable state and local laws, regulations and policies.

  • Understands and monitors systems for compliance as necessary. Provides necessary and timely communication to Medical Leadership when issues of compliance arise, and complies with a corrective strategy.

  • Understands and follows policies and procedures relative to medical provider scheduling, schedule changes, template development, etc., coordinating with efforts with the Practice Manager. Promptly communicates problems and issues in these areas to the Medical Leadership.

  • Assists other medical and general staff, in developing and designing new clinical services, as appropriate to Our FQHC patient needs.

  • Responsible for attending all appropriate meetings as directed by the Medical Leadership.





Additional Duties


  • Participate in work groups, case conferences, task forces and committees to support ongoing clinic functions. Foster communication and coordination within the clinic and outside agencies by establishing professional working relationships with others to facilitate the delivery of services to the patient.

  • Assist with training, orientation and clinical support for Fellows, new providers, advance practice providers, and clinical support staff.

  • Order or direct ordering of drugs, solutions, and equipment and maintain accurate controls and records for narcotic medications. Ensure that clinic staff maintains observance of universal precautions.

  • This position is responsible for reporting suspicion of child, adult (including spouses), elder, and dependent adult abuse as outlined in Penal Code, Section 11166, Section 15630, and Section 1160

  • Other duties as assigned.








EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE AND OR LICENSE/CERTIFICATION


  • Must be fully licensed to practice in the state of California

  • Board certified or eligible in Infectious Disease preferred

  • Board Certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine with experience in the care of persons living with HIV and within six months, become certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine.

  • Possess a DEA certificate

  • Current CPR Certificate

  • Licenses required for this position must be kept current, valid, and in good standing with the presiding entity.

  • Drivers License- possible travel between locations
